The Misa Oaxaqueña is not a strictly Baroque composition like a Zelenka or Hasse mass. It is a tradicional work that evolved from the Sones de Tierra Caliente and the ceremonial music of the Oaxacan highlands. Unlike the Misa Criolla (which uses Argentine folk rhythms), this mass utilizes the Sonecitos of the Isthmus.
